New vehicles sell surprisingly well in Croatia: illustrative image

June 6, 2023 – In the first five months of this year, 26,584 new passenger vehicles were sold in Croatia. That is 44.3 percent more than in the same period last year, while in May alone, it was 7,097 new vehicles. Year-on-year growth has been 69.5 percent, according to registration data by agency Promotion plus.

As Index writes, Renault sold the highest number of new vehicles in the current part of the year, 3,012. This French manufacturer therefore accounts for 11.3 percent of total sales. Volkswagen took the second place, having sold 2,890 new cars, or 10.8 percent. Škoda followed, with 2,699 new vehicles sold, and a share in total sales of 10.1 percent.

Opel is in fourth place since the German manufacturer sold 1,934 vehicles in the first five months of 2023 and has a share of 7.2 percent in total sales. Furthermore, Kia sold 1,912 new vehicles sold, taking a share of 7.1 percent. Renault Clio was by far the best-selling model in May, with 467 units sold. Škoda Octavia, which has been a favourite of Croatian citizens for many years, is in second place among the best-selling models. 391 people bought this model of the Czech-German manufacturer. Dacia Duster is in third place with 292 vehicles . Renault again holds the fourth place of the best-selling models in the fifth month of this year, with 275 Renault Capturs sold. Finally, the Suzuki Vitara is in fifth place with 222 units.

more hybrids than diesel cars sold

According to first registrations, Croatian roads are now also serving two Ferraris, two Maseratis, one McLaren, 29 Teslas and 26 Porsches. From the beginning of January until the end of May, 13,758 gasoline cars were sold, which is 51.8 percent of the total sales. 6,217 hybrids accounted for a share of 23.4 percent.

Diesels cars only took third place with 5,059 vehicles sold, which is a share of 19 percent in total sales. Moreover, in the first five months, 799 fully electric vehicles were sold. The share of electric cars in total sales, therefore, amounts to three percent. Finally, natural gas vehicles only sold 751 units, accounting for 2.8 percent.
