April the 10th, 2025 – The construction of a brand new Zagreb football stadium is finally (and concretely) on the horizon after 70 long years.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević, and Deputy Mayor Danijela Dolenec held a press conference this week, during which the pair answered several important questions. The mayor began the topic with the procurement of new buses and the renewal of ZET’s fleet. He revealed that this latest investment in ZET has doubled compared to the previous ones, increasing from 127.5 to 243 million euros.
He also reminded those gathered about the procurement of 80 new trams, of which three have already arrived. A total of 20 new trams will be put into service in the city by the end of the year. The procurement of 60 electric buses will also begin soon, which will arrive next year. He announced the start of construction of the Heinzelova line for this year, as well as work on rectifier stations that will solve voltage problems along the network.
“We’ve put seven new school buses into service, ZET now has a total of 41 school buses. We intend to buy three more buses, as the total school transport currently organised is for less than 4,000 students. An important investment is the purchase of 24 new vehicles for public transport for people with disabilities. We expect 10 vehicles to arrive April, and another 14 will get here during the summer,” reported Večernji list.
Tomašević added that the deadline for complaints and appeals regarding the public procurement for the brand new Zagreb football stadium in Kranjčevićeva has now expired. “There are no more obstacles in the road to the start of work on the new Zagreb football stadium, which should start in a few weeks. It will be the first construction of a new stadium in 70 years and a key phase towards the existing Maksimir stadium,” he said.
