November the 9th, 2023 – A piece of commercial history has seen the light of day again after the demolition of a building in the heart of the city, in the form of a 100 year old Zagreb advertisement.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, after the old building at Paromlinska seventeen in the very centre of Zagreb was demolished as part of the ongoing post-earthquake clean up process, an old Zagreb advertisement appeared on the wall of the neighbouring house. The advertisement is generally believed to be around one hundred years old, and has been dragged into the light of day once again after such a long time.

Unfortunately, due to the age of the advertisement and the lack of upkeep, it’s not currently been understood who is behind the old Zagreb advertisement, nor can we tell what exactly is being advertised.

The content of the old Zagreb advertisement isn’t clear

Currently, it isn’t very clear exactly why that particular rather odd location was good for advertising from the rather illegible text. The advertisement on the wall has naturally attracted the attention of passers-by keen to see a little piece of history unearthed as part of Paromlinska street’s ongoing works.

While some letters and even the odd word here and there can be almost made out and understood, it’s proven difficult to ascertain the specifics. It would be very interesting if a historian with knowledge of this specific field could research what was being advertised in central Zagreb approximately one hundred years ago.
