Oncology and Radiotherapy clinic within the Clinical Hospital Centre Split is achieving 20% better results in treating cervical tumors than any other similar clinic in the world, Hina reported on October 28, 2015.
Head of the clinic and President of the Croatian Oncology Society Eduard Vrdoljak commented on the methods used in the clinic: “Our clinical brachiotherapy ward conducts radiation treatments with a 4,2 million kuna brachitherapy device in combination with chemotherapy, We used this method on 118 patients treated for cervical tumor and achieved 20% better results than any other hospital in the world in 5 and 10 year monitoring periods”.
This clinic currently serves e needs of 1/5 of Croatia’s population; it has 42 beds, 77 employees and 13 doctors. Each doctor examines about 20 patients a day meaning that are busy all day. Clinical hospital centre in Split is one of the 4 centres that have been participating in the “72 hour programme” for cancer treatment, since April this year. This programme includes the beginning of treatment within 72 hours from the initial diagnosis and so far almost 10% of all patients with colorectal and breast cancers as well as malignant tumors of the neck and head, have been included in this programme.
