ZAGREB, November 28, 2020 – A web platform designed to advance continuing medical education was launched in Zagreb on Saturday.

The HeMED platform provides doctors and students with free access in the Croatian language to the latest editions of medical publications and enables them to search books and drug databases.

This is a unique project in Europe, designed to advance continuing medical education and improve Croatians’ medical literacy, it was said at the launch.

“Even though the language of modern medicine is English – that was once Latin – naturally it is easier to study medical topics in Croatian. This will certainly help medical students,” Croatian Medical Chamber president Kresimir Luetic said.

HeMED is also intended for members of the public who are not medical professionals and as of next year, Croatians will be able to use and search the Croatian-language version of the Patient Handbook.

Over the last three years more than 300 Croatian doctors translated, on a voluntary basis, more than 10,000 pages of texts from various medical books.
