Interesting morning at the main square in Zagreb.
On Sunday morning, the right-wing Authentic Croatian Party of Rights (A-HSP) gathered its “party army” on Ban Josip Jelačić Square in Zagreb. At the same time, on the other side of a police cordon, antifascists and members of the Workers’ Front protested against the event, reports Večernji List on February 28, 2016.
The unit of the so-called “Croatian Patriotic Forces” included about two dozen people dressed in black uniforms, with a Croatian flag whose chequered crest began with a white square, which is a version used by the Independent State of Croatia during the Second World War. The protest by antifascists included about fifty people.
A large number of police officers were present at the square, while citizens went around the gathering and mostly said that it was a shame that such a thing could happen in these times.
During the ceremony, Dražen Keleminec, the party president and the supreme commander of the Croatian Patriotic Forces, said that they wanted to give an oath to homeland. “We are not fascists nor Ustashas, but patriots who defended our homeland in 1991. The fascists were defeated in the World War II and there were no fascists in Zagreb”, said Keleminec.
On the other side of the police cordon, Marko Milošević from the Workers’ Front said that “if someone speaks and dresses like a fascist, he is a fascist”, and that the fascists do not have enough strength to admit it because they know it is disgusting.
