While waiting for a vote on new ministers, some MPs find ways to entertain themselves.
Today’s parliamentary session has been anything but calm. The debate is on new ministers who should join the government, but some MPs also found other topics to discuss, reports 24sata.hr on June 6, 2017.
Ivan Pernar (Živi Zid) decided to speak about a request from the Prosecutor’s Office to the Parliament to lift his immunity. He decided it would best to quote the Bible in his defense. Holding the Bible in his hands, he repeated that he was being prosecuted for a damage worth a thousand kunas which he caused by drawing a graffiti. He said that the indictment was politically motivated.
“Dear citizens, this is not a trial just against me, but also against you,” he said. Will the people, once they hear ‘guilty,’ celebrate Croatia as a state of law? What kind of message will be sent to other offenders, what kind of message is being sent to society with my conviction,” Pernar asked.
He also used the opportunity to criticise HNS which has decided to enter into a coalition with HDZ. “In John 8:44, Jesus says that Satan is a liar and the father of lies, that there is no truth in him and that he is not in the truth from the very beginning. We must wonder whether there are people in this Parliament who systematically lie and cheat the Croatian people? There are individuals who have no shame, who have no honesty and honour. John 8:44 explains who inspires such people, what are their motives, whether they are honest or not. The Biblical values are contrary to the values of HNS. Unfortunately, the problem that HNS has is not only theological in nature but also an issue of elemental human honesty and common sense to which you are opposed. From the perspective of the Bible, your fate is terrible, and those who are working with you to grab power are unfortunately not much better than you,” Pernar said.
“Members from HNS wear beautiful suits, look elegant in front of the cameras, but inside are basically corrupt. They are full of scams and lies. Just like the Pharisees and teachers of the law from Jesus’ days, and they are also referring to their teachers. Those hypocrites and Pharisees called upon the Old Testament prophets and said that they drew inspiration from them, that they are their teachers, they are their tradition and so on. But, in reality, they abandoned all their principles, and their ancestors killed those same prophets.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, it is not necessary to explain what is an electoral fraud. The Croatian people can see it today here with their own eyes. They can see that two completely opposing parties have been joined by nothing but interest,” Pernar added.
Pernar’s speech did not seem to impress SDSS MP Milorad Pupovac, who spent some time working on a paper plane. He completed the plane with just a few skillful moves and put it on the bench in front of himself.
