ZAGREB, March 26, 2018 – UK Ambassador to Croatia Andrew Dalgleish on Monday denied reports in Croatian media that he had attended a meeting of top Croatian officials involving President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in Zagreb on Monday morning.

Some media have today suggested that the British ambassador attended that meeting of Croatia’s top officials.

That isn’t true: Ambassador Dalgleish was indeed in Government House this morning, but he attended a separate meeting so that he could share some information with Croatia – a close ally in the EU and NATO – about the background and evidence gathered so far by the British government with regard to the attack in Salisbury, a press release from the British embassy said, underlining that Dalgleish did not speak with the prime minister and president on that occasion.

The press release also conveys London’s gratitude for Zagreb’s solidarity with Britain. We are pleased the Croatia has clearly expressed its solidarity with Britain concerning the attack in Salisbury and we welcome the statement by Prime Minister Plenković underscoring that the attack in Salisbury represents a violation of international conventions, the embassy said.

President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković met at government headquarters in Zagreb on Monday morning, presumably to discuss Croatia’s stance on Russia.
