ZAGREB, October 7, 2018 – Interior Minister Davor Božinović said on Sunday that there was absolutely political will to investigate everything in the case involving Milijan Brkić, stressing that the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) had nothing to do with the case.
Božinović underscored the police would investigate everything, in accordance with the law, reiterating that the case had nothing to do with the HDZ.
Chief of Police Nikola Milina said a special task force had been set up to investigate this case.
After Nacional weekly reported that senior HDZ official Milijan Brkić leaked the information to suspects under police surveillance in the 2011 elite prostitution case, the Chief State Prosecutor’s Office said the file on Brkić was missing.
Božinović also commented on the case of a police officer who was caught smuggling illegal migrants. He said this could not be tolerated, adding that it was also an indicator of the strength of the police system which promptly reacted.
A police officer from Zagreb was arrested in Korenička Kapela on Friday while transporting in his van migrants who have illegally entered Croatia from Bosnia and Herzegovina
Police stopped the van with migrants and discovered that the driver was a 40-year old police officer from Zagreb. There were 18 illegal migrants from Pakistan in the van. The police officer will be suspended until the investigation ends.
Božinović also commented on the case of a Syrian migrant and his five year old daughter whom he reported missing. The media reported that the Syrian migrant was found in Italy, but Božinović said no official confirmation arrived from Italy as of yet.
