September the 19th, 2024 – The Croatian Parliament has moved. Here’s a look at the new “home” of the country’s politicians for the foreseeable future.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Croatian Parliament President Gordan Jandroković recently convened the third session of the Croatian Parliament following their long summer break. After determining the agenda of the session, the time was as usually scheduled for questions being posed to the government. It all seemed like business as usual until you paid attention to the surrounding environment.
After much talk and plenty of suggestions for the temporary new “home” of the Croatian Parliament a few months ago, keen eyes will realise that the room the politicians are sitting in isn’t the usual one. The current premises are those of the Dr. Franjo Tudjman Military Academy.
The move occurred because the usual premises of the Croatian Parliament in Zagreb’s Gornji Grad (Upper Town) were finally undergoing important repairs following the March 2020 earthquake. Yes, you read that right. March, 2020. The current plans are for Croatia’s politicians to be seated there for a minimum of three years.
The parliamentary session began in these new premises with with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković’s report on the meetings of the European Council. Throughout the rest of the coming week, the country’s politicians will discuss some of the more contented laws related to housing, and then the dreaded tax reforms, the state budget, the re-balancing of said budget, the issues surrounding Croatia’s constitutional judges and more.
