December the 11th, 2024 – The Croatian think tank New Frontier Foundation (Nova Granica) has held a meeting with the International Democracy Union in Washington following Donald Trump’s election success.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, back at the end of last week, the Croatian think tank New Frontier Foundation organised an exclusive business lunch in Washington. That meeting was held together with the International Democracy Union and was dedicated to the future of transatlantic business in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment.

The aforementioned Croatian think tank presented its transatlantic mission with its appearance in Washington ahead of the arrival of the new US administration. Its aims are to build a network of global partners that will, through joint projects and initiatives, encourage innovation, competitiveness, economic growth and sustainable development. The desire is also to improve the overall quality of business between the EU and the USA.

The historic meeting at the highest level, the first of its kind held by a Croatian organisation, gathered together corporate giants, innovators, top legislators, directors, and industry experts from the USA and Europe in the same place.

During the meeting, which was attended by Donald Trump’s close adviser Matt Mowers, the main topics of discussion were the impact of the incoming Trump administration and the European Commission’s plans for energy security, AI and defence spending. The stark differences between US and EU regulations was also an important discussion point.

The future of transatlantic business and the possibilities for further cooperation, based on shared values, commitment to freedom and democracy, and the common goals of ensuring prosperity and peace for 800 million people on both sides of the Atlantic were at the heart of the meeting. Davor Ivo Stier and Željana Zovko from the European Parliament were present, as was Vladimir Drobnjak, former adviser to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, and Pjer Šimunović, Croatian Ambassador to Washington.

The founder and initiator of the Croatian think tank Natko Vlahović, made no effort to hide his satisfaction with the meeting, after which he especially thanked the speakers of the event who contributed great ideas with practical business and political implications. Special thanks was given to Hasan Davulac and Jay Bargas from MAGI.AI, Michael Wurmsen from Norge Mining and Rita Balogh from Google.

Thanks were also sent to Tina Merčep, Irena Martinović Klarić, Pjer Simunović, Vladimir Drobnjak, Davor Ivo Stier, Antonio Giordano, Matt Mowers, Samuel Rotenberg, and Federico Ottavi Reho for their insights into how the new US and EU administrations can promote fairer transatlantic trade and a better business framework.

This croatian think tank is important on the global stage

The New Frontier Foundation was established at the beginning of the year with the support of the US Embassy in Croatia. Its aims are to provide a new platform in Southeastern Europe and bring together global leaders, heads of state, government figures, leading entrepreneurs and business people, the media, academia and civil society to discuss strategic international, political, economic and social issues facing Europe, the US and Asia.

It was precisely on the wings of this idea that the business meeting in Washington came to be. Vlahović pointed out that the “focus on establishing a new economic dialogue that would enable companies to progress on both sides of the Atlantic” was the key point. This meeting in Washington has only confirmed the great importance of the Croatian think tank on the global stage.
