Croatian Troops Take Part in NATO Military Exercise in Poland

ZAGREB, June 15, 2018 – The Ministry of Defence said in a press release that Croatian troops had successfully participated in a military exercise held at the Bemowo Piskie Training Area in Poland, where they demonstrated their skills and achieved inter-operability of NATO’s Battle Group and Poland’s Armed Forces.

The Defence Ministry reported that the two-week exercise was held in the presence of high-ranking military and civilian guests. The exercise was organised by the Polish 15th Mechanised Brigade together with NATO’s Battle Group led by the USA.

The Battle Group Poland is a unique, multinational coalition of U.S., U.K., Croatian and Romanian troops who serve with the Polish 15th Mechanized Brigade as a deterrence force in support of NATO’s Enhanced Forward Presence.

They were joined by US troops as part of the Saber Strike 18 exercise. Saber Strike is an annual international exercise by the United States Army Europe (USAREUR) focused on the Baltic States and Poland and it involves more than 3,100 troops and 44 artillery weapons, 272 combat vehicles, 30 helicopters and six fighter jets.

US Deputy USAREUR Commander General Major Timothy McGuire, attended the exercise as did Poland’s General Commander of the Armed Forces Jaroslaw Mika, while Croatia was represented by its ambassador to Poland Andrea Bekič and Croatia’s military attache in the Baltic states and Poland Brigadier Jugoslav Jozić.

Croatia’s HRVCON troops conducted their duties in the best possible way together with partners from Poland, Romania, Great Britain and the USA, and demonstrated their training and attained inter-operability of the Battle Group and Polish Armed Forces, the Defence Ministry underscored in its press release.

The commander of the 2nd HRVCON Captain Dario Bilješković expressed satisfaction at the successful mission and thanked the Croatian troops for their efforts and professionalism.
