Gotovina says that each day will be better than the previous one.

Although most people are quite pessimistic about Croatia’s short-term future given the latest events, there are those who are of a different opinion. One of them is General Ante Gotovina.

On Thursday, he attended a ceremony of the official unveiling of a monument to Croatian soldiers who died during the Homeland War in Zadar. He was asked by journalists what he thought about the political and economic situation in the country.

“That is the life of democracy. It will be better. Each day will be better than the previous one. Certainly, there are times when we cannot find a way forward, but we have to believe, believe in democracy, believe in tomorrow. Everyone needs to do their job, and be ready to contribute towards that goal,” said General Gotovina asked to comment on the situation in the country.

Ante Gotovina is considered by most people in Croatia as one of the greatest heroes of the Homeland War. He was indicted for war crimes by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), but was acquitted in 2012, which resulted in mass celebrations in Croatia and an opposite reaction in Serbia. Although many expected that Gotovina would enter politics after the verdict, he has remained above politics and has rarely commented on current events.

Gotovina is also a subject of a movie which is currently being filmed in Croatia.
