ZAGREB, February 25, 2018 – Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Sunday the government would help the town of Delnice and its people who have been dealing with heavy snowfall for several days, helped by the army to remove it.

“We will look at the total amount of the costs that will be created. If the financial capacities of the town, the municipality, the county won’t be enough, we will find ways for co-financing or additional interventions,” Plenković said after a closed-door emergency management centre meeting, the public broadcaster reported. That is why there are mechanisms in the state budget, including the budgetary reserves, he added.

Plenković called on citizens to help each other during snowstorms and to care for their neighbours, notably the elderly.

He arrived in Delnice in the Gorski Kotar mountainous area together with Defence Minister Damir Krstičević and Transport Minister Oleg Butković, meeting with mayor Ivica Kovačević and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Prefect Zlatko Komadina, who asked the government to help the town where over 150 cm of snow has fallen in the past few days.
