ZAGREB, March 19, 2018 – Health Minister Milan Kujundžić said on Monday that the Istanbul Convention on the prevention of violence against women contained a small problematic issue in connection with gender ideology, however, this was not crucial given that the document was primarily focused on the protection of women and prevention of domestic violence.
The convention contains a small problematic segment relating to gender and (civil society) associations, which causes some disputes, however I believe that this will be resolved,” the minister said underscoring that the Istanbul Convention is primarily focused on the protection of women against violence and prevention of domestic violence.
Asked whether he could see gender ideology in the document, the minister answered that “it (ideology) is mirrored in the document a little, but it is not a crucial thing.”
The county branch of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) in Virovitica-Podravina on Monday stated that it fully supported the HDZ leader and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and the party leadership in their efforts to carry out the ratification of the convention.
This is the fifth county branch to publicly express the support of Plenković and the planned ratification. To date, the HDZ county branches of Šibenik-Knin, Osijek-Baranja, Dubrovnik-Neretva and Split-Dalmatia have said they are supportive of Plenković and the plan for the ratification.
