Karamarko: Orešković Should Resign – Coalition Reshuffle or New Elections

Total Croatia News

HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko rejects Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković’s request for him to resign.

HDZ president and First Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Karamarko commented on Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković’s request for him and Deputy Prime Minister Božo Petrov to resign.

Surrounded by party leadership, Karamarko said: “I was surprised that the Prime Minister asked me to resign, after he gave me his support several times and recently came to our party congress. Yesterday, we did not have a session of the government because Mr. Orešković’s had to go to an urgent meeting at the Security Intelligence Agency (SOA). However, the government is more important that SOA, so I do not see reason why the session was not held. I think that Mr. Orešković should explain what exactly happened.

As far as my resignation is concerned, we cannot accept that demand. We are the winning party with the largest number of MPs. Almost 800,000 people voted for us, while 76 members of Parliament voted for Mr. Orešković, after he received support from HDZ and MOST.

Mr. Orešković does not have our confidence any more, after this inexplicable demand.

We will have a meeting of party presidency tomorrow and make decisions. There will be either a coalition reshuffle or new elections. But, new elections would take time and money, and all the processes would be stopped. Therefore, I would prefer a reshuffle.

I think Orešković should resign. We should draw a line and reset the situation.

There will be no room for MOST in the reshuffle, they were not a credible partner. Rather, they behaved like opposition.”
