Kosovo Has Croatia’s Support in EU Integration

ZAGREB, February 8, 2018 – Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Wednesday received Kosovo Parliament Speaker Kadri Veseli, expressing support to Kosovo in the European integration process and stressing that Croatia was willing to help in that, the government said in a press release.

The prime minister said Croatia would help by sharing the knowledge and experience acquired during its European Union accession negotiations.

Veseli thanked Croatia for the support to Kosovo on its Euro-Atlantic journey and the deployment of Croatian troops in the peace-keeping Kosovo Force.

The two officials said Croatia-Kosovo political relations were very good and friendly, and that there was a lot of potential for developing economic cooperation, notably in energy, road building, construction, the rail infrastructure, and information technology.

They also discussed the status of the Croat minority in Kosovo.

Croatian Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković and his Kosovo counterpart Kadri Veseli said in Zagreb on Wednesday the two countries had very good and friendly relations which had been raised to the level of friendship and cooperation in the ten years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the Croatian parliament said in a press release.

Jandroković and Veseli agreed the two countries were willing to intensify their relations, notably in the economy, but also in other areas of common interest, such as Croatia sharing its experience in Euro-Atlantic integration.

Jandroković said the Croatian parliament was willing to continue to share its experience in institutional alignment with European Union membership terms.

The two officials welcomed the establishment of inter-parliamentary friendship groups, which are expected to play a significant role in the strengthening of relations. They also talked about the status of ethnic minorities. The Kosovo Albanian minority in Croatia is a model of a well-integrated community, it was said.

Jandroković said the Croatian community in Kosovo was of special importance to Croatia, and asked for help and cooperation in preserving it and its identity in Kosovo.
