“Leader of the Opposition” Reappears after Long Summer Break

ZAGREB, August 20, 2018 – Social Democrat (SDP) leader Davor Bernardić said in Barban on Sunday that his position at the helm of the strongest opposition party was stable.

“I am the president of the party until the next parliamentary election. After that, I can be held accountable for the party performance,” Bernardić said on Sunday in response to reporters’ questions about dissatisfaction of some of the party officials who according to media ask for Bernardić’s resignation.

During his attendance at the Prstenac Race medieval jousting tournament, which was held in the Istrian town of Barban, the opposition leader also criticised the government for some of the proposed measures in plans for the tax reform which he believes will be a blow to the tourist sector.

Bernardić said that the cabinet of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković had no strategy for that sector, and added that the government was protecting the interests of big capital.
