Monument at the Dotrščina Memorial Park defaced.
The central monument to the victims of fascism at Dotrščina in Zagreb was damaged during the night with fascist graffiti, reported on Sunday the Documenta Centre for Dealing with the Past, urging the government and the President to condemn this destruction of the monument to innocent victims of fascist terror, reports Jutarnji List on April 17, 2016.
“The location of the biggest mass crime in the history of Zagreb has been desecrated with fascist graffiti. On the board at the entrance to the park, and on the approaches to the central monument, fascist symbols have been inscribed, including a swastika”, announced Documenta, adding that this was the first desecration of the park since the 1990s when it was quite a common practice.
Documenta has urged the authorities to find the perpetrators, and called on the government and the President to condemn the devastation. It also demanded that they address the public and call for an end to the destruction of monuments to innocent victims of the Ustasha, the Nazi and Fascist terror.
Dotrščina is the site of the largest mass crime in the modern history of Zagreb where the Ustasha killed several thousand people during the Nazi occupation from 1941 to 1945. The victims were mostly Jews, Serbs, Roma and Croatian anti-fascists from Zagreb and surrounding areas.
