More Than 10,000 Visitors Come to Zemunik Air Force Base

Croatian Air Force presented some of its aircraft.

More than 10,000 visitors came on Saturday to the 93th Air Force Base of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence forces in Zemunik near Zadar, where an open day event was held to mark the Independence Day of Croatia, reports tportal.hr on October 8, 2016.

The visitors were able to see planes and helicopters which are flown by Croatian military pilots, including ZLIN 242L, BELL-206B, Pilatus PC-9M, Airtractor AT-802, Canadair CL-415, and for the first time the new reconnaissance and combat helicopters OH-58D Kiowa Warrior.

The Kiowa Warrior helicopters arrived to Croatia on 30 July and were officially presented on 10 August. With their flight, reconnaissance and combat capabilities, they represent a significant step forward in the capabilities of the Armed Forces, announced the Ministry of Defence.

The flight part of the programme also included the “Wings of Storm” acrobatic group. Also, the Museum of Military Aviation Technology was presented, as well as a MIG-21 flight simulator and an information desk where all those interested could find out how to become military pilots and members of the Armed Forces.

The commander of the 93rd Air Force Base in Zemunik Brigadier Karol Lučan said he was very pleased with the number of visitors. “We have contributed to the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of Croatian independence with this open day event in Zemunik. We have presented the aircraft that we have available, and also our hardworking members of Croatian Air Force who work here Although we expected a good number of visitors, we have been pleasantly surprised with such large attendance”, said Lučan.

“This is the first time that we have presented the reconnaissance and combat helicopters OH-58D Kiowa Warrior. These are the first five such helicopters from a total of 16 that we will eventually have. We are very happy with this donation and on this occasion, on behalf of all of us from the 93rd Air Base, I would like to thank our partners and donors from the United States”, said Lučan.
