Two months before parliamentary elections, the latest poll confirms HDZ has a lot of ground to cover.
Regular monthly poll conducted by Promocija Plus agency for HRT between 1 and 3 July shows that the collapse of the government and early elections have increased dissatisfaction with HDZ as the pivotal party in the ruling coalition. This has been reflected in a continuation of negative trends in the support for HDZ and with an increase in support for SDP and MOST, reports HRT on July 5, 2016.
The results of the poll show that HDZ and former First Deputy Prime Minister and HDZ president Tomislav Karamarko are seen as the main reason for early elections and difficulties in the functioning of government. At the same time, the junior partner in governing coalition – MOST – witnessed a substantial recovery in support for the second consecutive month, which confirms that their voters support the behaviour of the party.
If the parliamentary elections were conducted in early July, SDP would be the relative winner, with the support of 31.8 percent, which is an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to June. In July last year, the party had the support of 25.5 percent of voters.
HDZ is second-placed for the second consecutive month, now with support of 22.7 percent of voters, which is 3.6 percentage points less than in the June (and 6.8 percentage points less than in May).
In this month’s poll, MOST is firmly in third place with the support of 9.8 percent of voters, an increase of 3.4 percentage points compared to the results in June. Živi Zid is at fourth place with 5.3 percent of support (versus 7.4 percent in June), followed by HNS (3.1 percent), HSS (2.8 percent) and Milan Bandić’s party (2.0 percent).
The list of the most positive politicians is topped by President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović who was the choice of 17.1 percent of voters. “Nobody” as a separate category is second with 15.9 percent, followed by SDP president Zoran Milanović (12.4 percent), Tihomir Orešković (7.7 percent), Andrej Plenković (7.5 percent), and Božo Petrov (6.8 percent).
The list of the most negative politicians is headed by Tomislav Karamarko (39.5 percent), followed by Zoran Milanović (19.7 percent), “everybody” (11.6 percent), Zlatko Hasanbegović (5 percent), and Božo Petrov (4.8 percent).
The direction of the country is supported by only 6.8 percent of voters (compared to 9.1 percent in June, and 29.4 percent in January), while 84.5 percent of voters think that Croatia is heading in the wrong direction (compared to 83.2 percent in June and 49.4 percent in January).
