Outgoing Croatian Defence Minister Kotromanović to Leave Politics and Move to Washington

A relocation for Croatia’s Minister of Defence.

The outgoing Croatian Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović has decided to leave the world of politics and Croatia. The Defence Minister in the government of Zoran Milanović and the first candidate of Croatia Is Growing coalition in the tenth parliamentary constituency, where he just won a new term in Parliament, has decided to turn a new page in his life, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on December 25, 2015.

“After everything what happened, I have made the final decision: I will be leaving politics and Croatia for a while. First, I will go on vacation to Iraq or Mali. After that, I will work in America, outside the world of politics”, Kotromanović said.

It remains to be seen whether Kotromanović was serious when he said that we would go on vacation to one of those two countries, which are not really known as traditional tourist hotspots. But, what is certain is that the outgoing minister and newly-elected member of Parliament will turn to private business.

“I have recently made a private visit to the United States where I concluded final arrangements. Regardless of the outcome of the post-electoral drama in Croatia, which was unknown at that time, I said to myself that I have had enough of politics. It is a hard work, but if you are honest you cannot make a good living. I believe that I have done my job well and had a lot of success, but now I believe it is time to devote myself to family, to make some money so they can live like normal people. I am going to Washington where I will work for a law firm whose owners know my skills and knowledge”, Kotromanović explained.

Regardless of whether a new government is formed or Croatia holds new parliamentary elections, before moving to America Kotromanović will take advantage of all the privileges which his ministerial post affords him, including a full salary for the next six months. “That will not last for long. I will take advantage of the privileges until I get a work permit, for which my future employers in Washington have already initiated a procedure with the US authorities. In America, I will be accompanied by my wife and daughter, because I will spend there at least four years”, Kotromanović concluded.
