Good news for Osijek-Baranja County!
Good news for Slavonia as a contract worth close to one billion kuna is set to be signed today in Osijek, with other grant contracts planned to be signed for various other cities throughout the otherwise overlooked Eastern Croatian region of Slavonia.
As Dnevnik writes on the 1st of December, 2017, the session of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, which began at around 11:00, is being held today in Osijek.
This session in Osijek marks the fourth session of the government under Andrej Plenković’s mandate held outside of Zagreb, and by holding such sessions outside of the capital, the government wants to emphasise the importance of development priorities in all parts of Croatia, in an attempt to send a message to the wider public that nowhere is being brushed aside or forgotten.
At the beginning of today’s session, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković welcomed the attendees and initially emphasised the fact that “today [today’s session of the government] in Osijek shows the government’s orientation in trying to reduce disparities in the regional development of the country.”
He also noted that after the last meeting of the government in Slavonski Brod, it could be specifically seen how much was done. He then announced that a series of projects will be presented at today’s session, both for the City of Osijek and for the wider Osijek-Baranja County, which will be confirmed after the session by the signing of a contract worth nearly one billion kuna, while the total value of all the planned projects is “higher than two billion kuna” .
Before the beginning of the session, at 10:00, Plenković met with Ivan Vrkić, the mayor of the City of Osijek, and then with the prefect of Osijek-Baranja County, Ivan Anušić at 10:30.
After the session of the government, a series of grant agreements will be signed for the City of Osijek and Osijek-Baranja County for projects relating to transport and infrastructure, economy, entrepreneurship, environmental protection and energy, and management and regional development. In addition, a series of very welcome contracts will be signed for numerous projects in other Slavonian counties.
On the occasion of the celebration of the Day of the City of Osijek, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković will attend the session of the City Council of the City of Osijek at 15:30 at the Croatian National Theater in Osijek.
