Police Investigating Slavonski Brod Water Pollution

ZAGREB, April 2, 2018 – Brod-Posavina County police are investigating an ecological incident which occurred outside Slavonski Brod on March 28, in cooperation with the local prosecutor’s office, police said in a press release on Sunday.

The incident occurred when the Crodux energy company was testing an oil pipeline leading to an oil refinery in Bosanski Brod, a town across the Sava river in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The company plans to turn it into a gas pipeline. Slavonski Brod mayor Mirko Duspara has said the company is directly responsible for the pollution of the city’s water supply plant.

A sample analysis taken on Friday showed the water was polluted and citizens were warned not to use the Slavonski Brod water for drinking.

Crodux has denied any responsibility, saying between 150 and 200 litres of oil products leaked during the incident and that the leak and the pollution cannot be linked because of the distance between the leak location and the water supply plant.
