Poll: Government Continues to Lose Support

Still, the opposition does not seem to be profiting much.

The regular monthly CRO Demoskop opinion poll by the Promocija Plus agency, conducted in recent days (31 October to 4 November), shows the effects of the latest events related to the Agrokor case on political parties and individual politicians, reports N1 on November 6, 2017.

HDZ is still the most popular political party, with the support of 31.3% of voters (33.5% in October). At the same time, the main opposition party SDP recorded a small growth in its support, which now stands at 22.9% (22.1% in October). MOST are at the third position, with 8.7% of respondents saying they would vote for the party (7.8% in October), while Živi Zid is at the fourth place with 7.5% (6.6% in October).

The four largest parties are followed by HSS (3.1%), Bandić Milan 365 Party of Labour and Solidarity (2.3%), Independents for Croatia (2%), IDS (1.4%), HNS (1.2%), HSP AS (1.2%), and GLAS (1.4%).

Asked to select the most positive Croatian politician, “Nobody” (no politician) was the top choice for the third month in a row, with the “support” of 23.3% of Croatian citizens (21.7% in October). The second is President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, with the support of 14.0% of citizens (15.3% in October). Prime Minister Andrej Plenković is third with 11.1%, followed by Živi Zid MP Ivan Pernar with 6.9%, SDP president Davor Bernardić with 5.8%, and GLAS MP Anka Mrak Taritaš with 5.7%.

The list of the most negative politicians is led by Prime Minister Plenković, who was the selection of 20% of respondents (18.7% in October), followed by “all politicians” (14.3%), former Culture Minister Zlatko Hasanbegović (10.9%), SDSS leader Milorad Pupovac (8.7%), and SDP president Davor Bernardić (8.1%).

The direction of the country’s development is supported by 16.9% of citizens (17.9% in October), while 76.8% of respondents believe that Croatia is heading in the wrong direction (74.4% in October). The highest share of optimists can be found among HDZ voters and stands at 58%, while among voters of HNS, the junior coalition partner, the percentage is just 33.6%. Only 6.6% of SDP voters think the country is on the right track.

The support for government policies in the thirteenth month of its term stands at 30.1% (35.2% in October), while 55% of voters oppose them (52.6% in October).

Asked to select the most important topic or event of the month, most respondents picked the Agrokor crisis (69.8%). This is the second highest percentage recorded for any topic or event from January 2004, when the poll was first conducted. The highest score so far was also received by the Agrokor crisis when, at the outbreak of the crisis, the topic was selected by 71.6% of respondents.
