Poll: HDZ in Strong Lead, President Becoming Less Popular

Results of the latest political poll.

Nova TV has announced results of the latest monthly Crobarometer poll conducted by Ipsos agency, reports dnevnik.hr on January 26, 2017.

Among political parties, HDZ has a large lead, with 33.6 percent of voters supporting it, followed by SDP, which has been in decline for four months in a row. It currently has the support of 22.4 percent of voters. Živi Zid has become the third most popular party with the support of 9.5 percent voters, while MOST is now in the fourth place with 8.8 percent of votes.

The four largest parties are followed by Bandić Milan 365 party (3.7 percent), HSS (3.2 percent), HSU (3 percent), Pametno (2.1 percent), IDS (2.0 percent), and HNS (1.7 percent).

About 57 percent of respondents believe that Croatia is moving in the wrong direction, while 33 percent think the country is on the right track. In the last three months, the number of pessimists has increased from 51 to 57 percent.

The government is slowly losing support for its policies. Currently, 47 percent of respondents do not support government’s policies, while 41 percent support them. The number of opponents has grown in the last three months, from 36 percent in November. However, good news for the government is that there is a growing number of citizens who think that the ruling coalition will survive until the end of the term.

President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović has lost a lot of support in the last several months. At the moment, her policies are supported by 47 percent of the respondents, while 45 percent are against them. Two months ago, as much as 58 percent of voters supported her. Her controversial trip to the United States obviously did not help.

Respondents were also asked about whether they have a positive or a negative impression about individual politicians. About 57 percent have a positive impression of President Grabar-Kitarović, while 35 percent have a negative impression. For comparison, as much as 87 percent of voters had a positive impression about her predecessor at the similar point in his term.

The President is followed by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković about whom 56 percent of voters have a positive impression. His predecessor Tihomir Orešković had slightly higher support, with 59 percent of citizens having a positive impression.

About 46 percent have a positive impression about Speaker of Parliament and MOST leader Božo Petrov, while 42 percent of respondents view him negatively. SDP president Davor Bernardić has divided the nation, with 38 percent of citizens having a positive impression, and the same percentage having a negative impression of him.
