Poll Shows Support for Plenković’s Cabinet

First poll shows good results for the new government.

On Saturday evening, Nova TV announced results of the first poll about the new government led by Andrej Plenković, which was confirmed in Parliament on Wednesday, reports dnevnik.hr on October 23, 2016.

According to the poll, 56 percent of voters are satisfied with the composition of the new cabinet, 31 percent are not satisfied, while 12 percent have no opinion. Among those who voted for HDZ, 79 percent are satisfied with the cabinet, and their opinion is shared by 40 percent of SDP voters. Interestingly, the most satisfied are those who voted for MOST, 81 percent of whom support the selection of ministers.

At the beginning of his term in office, Andrej Plenković can be satisfied with the expectations of citizens. The majority thinks that will be better than his predecessors Tihomir Orešković and Zoran Milanović. Sixty-four percent of voters think he will be better than Orešković, 26 percent think he will be about the same, and only 5 percent think he will be worse. In comparison with Zoran Milanović, 60 percent of voters think Plenković will be better as Prime Minister, 25 percent think he will be about the same, while 11 percent think he will be worse.

However, plurality of voters, 43 percent, think that the government will fulfil just a smaller part of the pre-election promises, 29 percent think that it will fulfil most of its promises, while 22 percent think than no promises will be fulfilled. Only 5 percent are optimists who believe than all promises will be fulfilled.

According to the opinion of 84 percent of voters, the government will survive until the end of its four-year term, while 14 percent think that it will collapse prior to the next regular parliamentary elections.

The poll also compared opinions about new Speaker of Parliament Božo Petrov and his predecessors. About 43 percent of respondents believe that he will be better than him immediate predecessor Željko Reiner, 34 percent think that he will be about the same, while 18 percent expect him to do worse. However, when compared to Josip Leko, who was Speaker of Parliament during the SDP-led government, Petrov is doing worse. Just 25 percent think that he will be better than Leko, 37 percent think that he will be about the same, while 32 percent think that he will be worse.
