In the morning, slightly fewer people voted than in the first round two weeks ago.
The second round of local elections is taking place today in Croatia. The voters will elect the Mayor of Zagreb, prefects in eight counties, mayors in 54 towns and municipal mayors in 102 municipalities. Other local government units concluded with the election process in the first round, because one of the candidates won over 50% of the votes two weeks ago.
In the focus of interest are mayoral elections in the four largest towns (Zagreb, Split, Rijeka and Osijek), as well as in Metković, Varaždin, Dubrovnik, Split-Dalmatia County, and Vukovar-Srijem County.
2.79 million people have the right to vote, and they will vote at 4,443 polling stations which will close at 19:00. Exit polls for the four largest towns will be published immediately after the voting ends, while the first official results are expected to start coming in at around 20:00.
According to the data from the State Election Commission, as of 11.30, 14.81 percent of eligible voters voted, which is slightly less than in the first round when 15.98 percent of citizens voted.
By counties, the largest turnout is in Lika-Senj County (26.55 percent), followed by Zadar County (23.65 percent). The lowest turnout is in Vukovar-Srijem County (12.05 percent). In Zagreb, 15.62 percent of voters went to the polls in the morning, which is slightly more than two weeks ago.
According to information from the State Election Commission, there are no major problems reported, and all polling stations have been opened on time.
President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović voted around noon at a polling station in Zagreb, while Prime Minister Andrej Plenković voted in Zagreb earlier in the morning. Party leaders and candidates for mayors and prefects voted during the morning at their local polling stations.
