ZAGREB, March 26, 2018 – President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković met at government headquarters in Zagreb on Monday morning, presumably to discuss Croatia’s stance on Russia.

“It was an informal meeting. We discussed several topics, but I cannot tell you what we concluded,” Jandroković told reporters after the hour-long meeting. Asked if they discussed last week’s conclusions by the European Council and reactions by Croatia as an EU member state to Russia, Jandroković said they had consultations about some important issues, these consultations were ongoing and he could not discuss details.

Their meeting came after the European Council meeting on Friday and the decision to recall the EU ambassador from Moscow.

On Sunday, High Representative Federica Mogherini held consultations with the Head of European Union Delegation in the Russian Federation Markus Ederer, “who has arrived in Brussels after having been recalled for consultations as requested by the European Council on Friday. Mr Ederer will continue institutional consultations in the coming days,” according to a press release from the Office of High Representative Mogherini.

The meeting of Croatia’s state leadership on this issue was announced by Plenković on Friday after attending the European Council summit meeting in Brussels.

Last week Grabar-Kitarović invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit Croatia.
