ZAGREB, April 10, 2018 – Three migrants were seriously injured after jumping from a bridge over the River Mrežnica near Generalski Stol in the night between Monday and Tuesday while fleeing police. Two have been taken to hospital in Karlovac and one to Ogulin, 50 kilometres south of Zagreb.

Josip Granić of the local branch of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS), said on Tuesday said that the three men had jumped from a bridge in the village of Keići but had missed the water of the river and had fallen on a steep rocky surface.

The HGGS was called in to assist paramedics in the rescue operation as the injured men had been on the very precipitous slopes.

One of the men hospitalised in Karlovac is in serious condition but stable, while the other will have to be transported to Zagreb for treatment of spinal injury.

The hospital in Karlovac does not know the nationality of the injured men because they declined to reveal where they come from.

The man admitted to the Ogulin hospital was undergoing surgery on Tuesday morning.

The Karlovac police have said they will give more information later.
