Former HDZ president is enjoying his time away from politics.
After turbulent events several months ago, which resulted with Tomislav Karamarko’s resignation as HDZ president and the fall of the government, the former HDZ president is spending his time away from politics, reports Večernji List on August 21, 2016.
The last few months Karamarko has spent travelling and enjoying an active, somewhat adventurous vacation at the Zrmanja river. In the company of friends and his son, he is reportedly spending his days going down rapids and waterfalls in a kayak. Though Karamarko does not appear at public events anymore, he does make occasional posts on Facebook to mark holidays, to comment on certain events and to congratulate Croatian Olympians for their successes. During the summer, before the adventure on the Zrmanja river, Karamarko reportedly travelled to the United States.
Karamarko has been based in recent weeks in Zadar, his hometown. He is not interested in the political situation and reportedly does not even read newspapers anymore. Whether Karamarko has had enough of politics for good or he has plans to once again get involved is a question whose answer remains uncertain, because neither Karamarko nor his friends are willing to talk about it.
In any case, Karamarko will have to pursue a career – whether in business or in politics. The latter is currently less likely since Karamarko has distanced himself from all political events. Since Andrej Plenković took over as HDZ president, Karamarko has not commented on any moves made by the new party boss. Although Karamarko is still a member of the HDZ Main Committee, since his resignation he has not appeared at a single meeting of that party body. He is also not a candidate at the September’s parliamentary elections.
According to unofficial information, he has decided for the time being to devote himself to family and friends. Three weeks before last years’ elections, Karamarko was the president of HDZ and he was travelling all over Croatia to motivate voters and prepare the party for the elections held in November 2015. His life has turned upside down in just one year.
