After almost two months, new Veterans Affairs Minister has been named.
Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković has confirmed that Tomislav Medved is the new Veterans Affairs Minister, reports Index.hr on March 15, 2016.
After the Prime Minister confirmed that he would meet later in the afternoon with retired General Tomislav Medved, who was the candidate of the Patriotic Coalition for the Veterans Affairs Minister, he officially announced his appointment just after 7 PM.
Medved is a retired general of the Croatian Army and president of the Association of War Veterans. Seven years ago he was promoted to Brigadier General and he has received numerous medals and honours including the Knez Domagoj medal for heroic actions.
Speaking at the press conference later in the afternoon, the Prime Minister said: “We have the Minister of Veterans Affairs, and that is General Tomo Medved. I am glad that we have a minister of this stature.”
“I would like to thank the Prime Minister, but also the Patriotic Coalition which submitted the proposal, recognizing in me a person who is ready to take this responsible position. I have devoted my whole life to the homeland”, said Medved. “I will use all the experience that I have gained to work on behalf of Croatian veterans. First, it is necessary to form a strong team, so that the Ministry can function. To veterans, I send a message of respect, assurance that their contribution and sacrifice have not been forgotten. They will have a partner in the Ministry, and they will be able to participate in the policy-making and management of the Ministry”, added Medved.
“The first step will be the proposal for a comprehensive law for veterans and their families. We will propose the adoption of the National Strategy for the Preservation and Protection of Health of Croatian Veterans”, said Medved.
