“Your head will be blown just like you were in Syria,” the attackers threatened.
The “Are You Syrious” Association, which helps refugees from war-torn countries, has published on its Facebook profile threats received by a young Iraqi asylum-seeker who has recently arrived with his family in Zagreb, reports vijesti.hr on March 22, 2018.
In addition to the threats posted on Facebook, the young asylum-seeker was physically attacked when he was returning from school to his home. According to the association, a bully, who was in the company of two friends, physically assaulted the young immigrant, who managed to free himself and run away. He then called his father and brother to come and help him. They have also received threats from the attackers.
“Do not carry weapons because, if you were to have them with you, your head will be blown just like you were in Syria.” “You are on my ground; your life will become hell now.” “You can’t move anywhere without my permission.” “Your life is terror from now on.” – these are just some of the messages that the immigrant has received through social media.
The association published a screenshot of the messages on its Facebook profile, accompanied by a post highlighting the reality of life for migrants in Croatia.
“This is the reality of integration in Croatia, and these are just some of the vicious threats sent to an underage asylum-seeker from Iraq, who came to Croatia fleeing from ISIS and whose family has recently moved into one of the neighbourhoods in Zagreb. The attacker, whom the immigrant does not know, accompanied by two other young men, met him at the bus station in the neighbourhood and physically attacked him. The migrant was returning home from school, but he managed to flee the attackers and call his father and brother to come and rescue him. While they were returning home together, at the beginning of the street where they live, they were again met by four young men unknown to them, who continued to threaten them. The case has been reported to the ombudswomen and the police, from whom we expect a quick and efficient reaction. The attacked family is being assisted by volunteers from the Are You Syrious association and from the Jesuit Refugee Service,” wrote the association on its Facebook profile.
