Citizens are advised to avoid travel as the current weather conditions present a serious health risk
So much about the arrival of spring: Meteoalarm issued a red alert for the regions of Kvarner and Dalmatia on Thursday, due to strong bura wind which might reach a speed of 140 km/h, reports 24sata on March 22, 2018.
“The weather is extremely dangerous and presents a serious health risk, and can lead to life-threatening situations, especially for mariners. In addition, there is a considerable risk of damage to the coastal infrastructure”, Meteoalarm warned in their notice.
Owing to tempestuous wind, the A1 highway was closed for traffic earlier today between Sveti Rok and Posedarje. Citizens have reported the highway is seeing snowfall all the way south to Makarska, with low temperatures presenting considerable danger of icy conditions on the road, especially on bridges.
State road Maslenica-Zaton Obrovački is also out of operation, implying there’s no sense to taking the old Maslenica bridge as drivers won’t be able to continue further on except to Rijeka. All vehicles on their way to Zagreb are instructed to take the route via Obrovac and Gračac.
As we get closer to the end of the day, the wind speed is only expected to increase further. The public is thus advised to refrain from travel and avoid staying near endangered areas on the coast. Several ferry lines will probably stop operating during the day.
The weather conditions will reportedly start improving tomorrow, with a temperature increase expected on Saturday.
