The latest on the migrant crisis through Croatia.
The influx of refugees to Croatia is continuing, with more than 82,000 migrants entering Croatia in the last two weeks. Yesterday, more than 4500 people entered Croatia at the Tovarnik and Bapska border crossings, and most of them have already been transported to Hungary. This morning, the 32nd refugee train left Tovarnik towards the Hungarian border reports Vecernji List and Jutarnji List on September 29, 2015.
The biggest problem for refugees is the cold and rainy weather. Many of the refugees are soaking wet and shivering. Among them there are many women and small children. Due to the weather conditions, the authorities have started setting heated tents at the refugee reception camp in Opatovac. All the refugees have beds, blankets, food and water. The refugee camp in Opatovac will be visited today by the Croatian prime minister Zoran Milanović.
Some of the refugees arriving to Croatia have described what happened to them in Serbia. “We have received written instructions in Arabic telling us that the they will send us here, and not to Hungary. The Serbian authorities have told us that there are problems in Hungary, while in Croatia there is no danger”, said some of the refugees.
Talking about the possibility of refugees arriving to southern Croatia near Dubrovnik, Croatian interior minister Ranko Ostojić said yesterday that “all the refugees who would cross the border in southern Croatia would be returned to the country from which they came from”.
Hungary announced that it will propose at the UN General Assembly the introduction of global quotas for immigrants, foreign minister Peter Szijjarto said in New York. “From our perspective, it seems that only Europe is under the pressure of migrants because it is surrounded by unstable regions, which could lead to the arrival of 30 to 35 million people at our borders”, said Szijjarto. He believes that it is not fair for the burden of migrants to be carried just by Europe, as other world powers are also responsible for the instability in the regions around Europe.
