December the 6th, 2023 – Alcohol consumption is set to be banned on Rijeka beaches, with a nearby destination also set to dole out fines for other acts.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, after the new Law on the Maritime Domain and Sea Ports was adopted back at the end of July this year, all cities and municipalities along the coast and on the islands are obliged to adopt decisions of the same name as part of their own maritime domain order(s).
The case of the City of Pula brought the issues of toplessness and alcohol consumption on beaches into the public spotlight. This week, the aforementioned points, as well as other provisions from the proposed decision will be discussed at the Rijeka City Council session.
Unlike Pula and the Municipality of Kostrena, which is closer to Rijeka, whose councilors adopted the aforementioned decision last week, in the Rijeka Decision, the topic of swimwear isn’t mentioned anywhere on the stretch from Preluk to Pećine. That said, the consumption of alcoholic beverages on Rijeka beaches will be prohibited, unless it is done on the terrace of a restaurant, according to a report by Novi list.
Things are a little different again on the neighbouring beaches of Kostrena, where a large number of Rijeka’s citizens go and swim in the summer. According to last week’s decision “people are now not permitted to walk around without wearing a bathing suit unless the beach is designated as a nudist beach.”
According to what is currently being proposed to the city councillor, on all Rijeka beaches from Preluk to Pećine, it turns out that cans and bottles of beer being taken to the beaches in cool bags caused the issue. They said the same in Kostrena, but in this municipality, they also made an exception in the case of permitted public gatherings held on the maritime domain, in other words – alcohol present at some celebrations and festivities will be overlooked.
