The renovated building will house the winery, tasting rooms, a hotel, restaurants and a multifunctional hall.

A new project by the Roxanich winery in Motovun seeks to alter the wine tourism paradigm in Istria. With a project signed by Rijeka architect Idis Turato, author of the excellent Navis hotel on Preluk between Rijeka and Opatija, Roxanich is renovating the old Motovun wine cellar, for many years a central place for the buyout of grapes from local vineyards, processing and storage of wine. The Motovun winery was privatised at the end of the 1990s and went from an agricultural cooperative into a new municipal company, which did not turn out to be a good solution. Productino began to fall, and the huge capital of vineyards in the Motovun area was neglected and devalued. Many private companies thus began to produce and brand on their own, and the old Motovun cellar closed down and rapidly decayed, so the district authorities decided to sell the real estate.

The Roxanich winery seeks to develop a new paradigm of Istrian wine tourism in this area. As the studio of Idis Turato explains in the project presentation, the idea is to form a completely new wine road with its own dynamic of utilising the offer in the entire area integrating production and services. In one place will be the winery, tasting rooms, hotel, restaurants and multifunctional hall. More on the vision and elements of the entire project can be seen here.
