October the 25th, 2023 – Croatian politician and Sinj mayor Miro Bulj has said that he is forming a civil guard “because of migrants” and that “if they decide to shoot, they’ll be fired back at”.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Sinj mayor Miro Bulj has publicly claimed that he intends to organise the self-protection of the residents of the wider Cetina area (which encompasses Sinj). In the fight against the illegal entry of migrants into Croatia, he is calling for the army to be involved to help “the overburdened police forces at Croatia’s border crossings”.
Sinj mayor Miro Bulj has stated his plans to have civil guards posted along the Croatian border with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Sinj area.
“There are terrorists among these migrants, we’ve got to properly organise ourselves”
“This is self-help, it’s a form of self-organisation. We’ll also have to unite in that area when migrants, including terrorists, start entering into Croatia from there in uncontrollable numbers. They bring their warsome nature and their culture here and they don’t care about us at all, and it seems that the country doesn’t care either. If they fire their weapons at our people, we’ll in kind,” Sinj mayor Miro Bulj told HRT.
He claimed that the vast area of Sinj, which sits in the Dalmatian hinterland and borders Bosnia and Herzegovina, is threatened by a wave of illegal migration.
“One single hair or fingernail of a child is more important to me than all these migrants put together. Half of them are terrorists!”
“All countries are currently closing their borders to them, but Croatia’s remain open. Look at our more remote areas, look at the Dinara and Kamensko mountains… these migrants are simply allowed to enter! One single hair or fingernail of a child is more important to me than all of these migrants. Half of them are terrorists,” emphasised Bulj.
He wants the army to join the Croatian border police at the border, but the Interior Ministry (MUP) says that there is no need for this because the security situation hasn’t remotely worsened and there is no immediate danger.
MUP: There are barely any such migrants in Dalmatia
“Since the beginning of this year, 61,000 illegal migrations have been recorded throughout Croatia, of which only two percent have occurred the area covered by the Split-Dalmatia County police department. The largest number of migrants has come here from Turkey. The number of illegal migrants over the last two months has decreased compared to the previous period,” reported the Ministry of the Interior.
