August the 15th, 2026 – Mayor Miro Bulj says that Sinj will gladly provide funding in the amount of 20,000 to Omiš following the devastating fire which broke out last night.
Mayor Miro Bulj has made a decision allocating 20,000 euros in aid from Sinj to Omiš following the major fire that has devastated that area. Index reports that in a statement, he emphasised that the assistance is an expression of solidarity with the citizens of Omiš in these difficult moments.
“It’s extremely hard to watch Omiš go up in smoke and flames, people evacuating their homes, parents rescuing their children, and families fearing for everything that generations before them have built. In a short time, the fire destroyed houses, cars, olive groves, memories and years of hard work,” Bulj said.
He added that the fire has not, however, destroyed the most valuable thing – the courage and strength of the people of Omiš to defend their homes. “Dear people of Omiš, your pain today is also ours. When one town suffers, the whole of Croatia feels it. When one person is threatened, we are all called to help. Sinj and Omiš are not just neighbours. We are connected by a love of stone, the Cetina river, the sea, faith, tradition and homeland. We are connected by the pride of people who throughout history have defended what is theirs and have always helped others in need.”
“The amount of 20,000 euros is a modest contribution given the scale of the damage, but it represents the sincere solidarity and friendship of all the women and men of Sinj. It is a message to every resident of Omiš: we stand with you, we feel with you, and we will help you rebuild your homes and restore normal life in the town,” the mayor’s statement reads.
He told the Mayor of Omiš, Zvonko Močić, and the President of the City Council, Karlo Lukasović, that the City of Sinj is at their disposal for all necessary assistance. “I wish a swift and full recovery to all the injured. To the families who have lost their homes or suffered damage, I say: hold on and know that you are not alone.”
Bulj also called on others to join in. “I expect all institutions and everyone who can to get involved in the aid effort. Now is the time for concrete help to everyone whose home and future are under threat.” He particularly thanked the emergency services.
“I thank our firefighters, members of the emergency services and all those who helped. In the hardest moments they stood between the fire and human lives and defended every home and every person. Their courage, strength and self-sacrifice inspire pride and restore faith in people.”
On the eve of the Feast of the Assumption (Velika Gospa), Bulj also offered a prayer. “I pray for the intercession of Our Lady of Sinj the Miracle-Worker to protect Omiš, all its residents, their families and our firefighters. May she bring healing to the injured, peace to the frightened, and strength and hope for a new beginning to those who have lost their homes.”
“Dear people of Omiš, take care of your town and of one another. Your streets will once again be filled with life, homes will be rebuilt, and your pride and love for Omiš will be stronger than the fire. Sinj will always stand with you,” Mayor Bulj said.
