January the 10th, 2026 – Skiing season has officially kicked off on Sljeme high above Zagreb, and it will be entirely free for certain groups.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, skiing season on Sljeme officially begins today (Saturday, January the 10th, 2026), with the opening of the Green and White slopes. Skiing for Croatian citizens will be free this season, as was the case over the previous two seasons.
“Given the ideal snowy conditions and the large number of visitors expected on Sljeme, we’d like invite citizens to use public transportation to get to the cable car due to limited capacity in the garage and in the open car parks near the Lower Station. We’d also like invite citizens not to drive to the top of Sljeme in their own cars in order to reduce crowds, but to instead use the cable car, which has been made free for all of Zagreb’s residents,” they stated from the city administration.
Starting Saturday, January the 10th, the working hours of the popular Sljeme cable car will be adjusted to the start of the skiing season on Sljeme itself. On weekdays, the first departure will take place at 08:00, while the last departure from the Lower Station will take place at 16:30., and from Sljeme itself at 17:00. On weekends, the first departure will also take place at 08:00, the last one from the Lower Station will be at 17:30, and from Sljeme, at 18:00.
The garage’s working hours are also changing accordingly. There’s also the 140 bus line (Mihaljevac – Sljeme) directly to Sljeme, which runs every hour on weekends. Additional information about transportation is available here.
Visitors to Sljeme are urged to respect the posted warnings and signage on the ski slopes. For the safety of all users, sledding on the ski slopes is not allowed, while the eastern part of Činovnička livada is designated for sledding alone. The ski resort will be open daily from 09:00 to 16:00.
