March the 15th, 2024 – The controversial ChatGPT, a tool of the even more controversial AI that countries are rushing to create watertight laws about, is being introduced to all city services by Split’s local authorities.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, on Wednesday, the City of Split announced on Facebook that they have decided to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) into the provision of their city services. They claim that the introduction of ChatGPT should help them in their work and modernise all of their specific services.

“With the aim of speeding up administrative processes and further transforming the city administration using modern technological tools, the services of the City of Split will have a digital tool based on the application of artificial intelligence (ChatGPT) available in their daily work from now on,” the City of Split’s social media post wrote.

They added that the city administration of Split, as one of the leaders of the digital transformation of public administration in the Republic of Croatia, is continuing to apply new tools in business after the digitisation of business processes and the introduction of electronic signatures.

“In the first phase, this [ChatGPT] will refer to saving time when carrying out daily administrative tasks such as creating analyses and aiding in creating documents,” they addedin the press release stating what ChatGPT will actually do for Split, according to a report from 24sata.

According to Split’s authorities, with the help of further development of technology based on artificial intelligence, their strategic goal is make the city’s services more accessible and efficient to individuals, as well as to transform processes within the administration itself. They hope to provide all of the currently available tools to officials, to educate them on their use, and thus free up time that will be instead invested more wisely in projects and programmes that will contribute to the sustainable development of the wider community.
