Croatia – Germany 2:0

Croatia secured a place among the last eight of the FIFA U-17 World Cup with their 2-0 win against Germany on October 29, 2015. This is Croatia’s first ever knock out game at this level for this age group.

It started well for Croatia with an early warning shot by Josip Brekalo. Only few minutes later, same player broke free to pass the ball to Karlo Majic who failed to finish, but Nikola Moro was right on target scoring for 1-0.

Even though it seemed the German side was a bit shocked by Croatia’s early lead and attacking play, they gained their composure and it was only due to the brilliant goal keeping of Adrian Šemper that Croatia managed to keep the 1-0 lead until the end of first half.

The second half was full of opportunities for the German side, but Croatian defence and especially Šemper successfully halted their attempts. Lovren’s breakaway goal in the first minute of overtime relieved a period of extended German pressure and secured a win for the young Croats that will see them in a quarter-final showdown with Mali on Sunday, November 1, 2015.
