Representatives of the Kinesiology and Sports Institute and Kinesiology Faculty Split signed on Thursday an agreement for a five-year cooperation with the professional cycling club Bahrain Merida, whose sports director Vladimir Miholjević announced its cyclists will visit Hvar this month for training
“We have chosen Hvar for training due to the ideal conditions it offers, primarily the terrain and climate, and during the 13-day period we will actualise 900 overnights,” Miholjević said for HINA. Hvar will be visited by 28 cyclists, 48 members of staff and at one point there will be a total of 110 persons together with representatives of media and sponsors. Miholjević emphasised the tourism boards of Split-Dalmatia County and Hvar Town, as well as the Sunčani Hvar hotel group and Kinesiology and Sports Institute have offered Bahrain Merida everything the best world teams need, RTL.hr published on December 7, 2017.
“We may not even be aware that in Croatia we have everything needed, we just need to know how to make use of it and offer it to the best in the world,” Miholjević pointed out.
Institute director Dražen Čular mentioned that Miholjević did not only bring one of the best professional cycling clubs to Croatia, he also organised Tour of Croatia. “Miholjević also brought Tour of Croatia and we’ve seen the importance of that race,” said Čular. He added the agreement with Bahrain Merida is a continuation of the project by the Kinesiology and Sports Institute begun three years ago under the name “Source of knowledge in kinesiology and health.”
“Bahrain Merida wants to make use of climate conditions on Hvar for training, and they recognised the Kinesiology and Sports Institute has the resources and capacity to offer services of sports kinesiology diagnostics and education for their needs,” said Čular.
Vice Dean of Split University Rosanda Mulić stated the University welcomes the internationalisation of the activity of the Kinesiology and Sports Institute. “We support such an engagement which connects science with the sports industry and tourism,” she added.
Bahrain Merida physician Carlo Guardascione said the instruments operated by the Institute can offer all the services needed by superior athletes. Čular also stated that in the summer of 2018 the Kinesiology and Sports Institute in Split will host the best basketball experts from the NBA league.
“They will hold lectures and this will be a great motivation for all those looking for superior basketball knowledge,” said Čular. He also mentioned this Institute is currently preparing a project for the Croatian Science Foundation which will deal with genetic predisposition and other issues relevant for “the detection of talents and their guidance towards sports.”
