Zaton holiday resort near Zadar will host World Championship in minigolf.

World Minigolf Championship will take place in Croatia for the first time, reports Ezadar on September 16, 2017. The competition already kicked off with World Adventure Golf Masters held September 11-12 on the Adventure Golf course in Zaton. The World Minigolf Championship, held in Zaton holiday resort near Zadar, will officially be opened on September 20th and end on September 23rd, 2017.

Over 160 contestants from over 20 countries, including Germany, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, Ghana and several European countries will participate in this event, making it the first time to have countries from five different continents compete together.

“We can expect a tough competition and an exciting championship since this is a neutral terrain for all competitors, seeing that nobody has the home field advantage. The conditions are excellent, and I’m glad we will be joined by some new countries,” said the tournament director Pasi Aho on behalf of the World Minigolf Federation (WMF).

The last championship was held in 2015 in Lahti, Finland, where the German team was the best in both men’s team and women’s team categories, also bringing home gold medals for best individual players awarded to Stefanie Blendermann and Marcel Noack.

“The World Minigolf Federation at the beginning of the year decided to step outside of the box and organise the event somewhere other than the usual minigolf clubs and countries, as we want others to discover more about this great sport. Zaton Holiday Resort, proposed by the Croatian Minigolf Federation, has been a logical solution, as it provides everything we need in one place, from accommodation to the terrain to the viewing area. “Zaton is an ideal location for such a championship and I hope we will continue our cooperation in the future,” said Simon Levander of the organizing team.
