Just last week the news came that the most famous Croatian sports globetrotter Bruno Šundov has moved to a new country and signed a contract with Nicaraguan club Toros del Norte, Jutarnji list reports. However, the adventure in Central America was very short, just enough for him to officially include the 26th club and 16th country in his basketball resume. As of January 27, 2016, Šundov is already at a new club, a new country, and a new continent.
The Nicaraguan club hired him just for a tournament of Latin American club championship, which took place last weekend in Argentina. In a tough group against champions of Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela, Toros del Norte was defeated three times. However, Šundov was the best player of the Nicaraguan champions with 19.7 points and 9.3 rebounds on average.
And while an average person would take a few days off to rest after flights from Europe to Central America and back, the 36-year-old from Split has already found his next team. Petrochimi from Mahshahr is the 27th club in his impressive resume, while Iran is the 17th country in which he will earn his salary. It is not easy to find a man who changes so many time zones, but he did answer his phone in one of the airports on his way: “Actually, I have already arranged everything in Iran even before I went to Nicaragua. I have played at the tournament in Argentina for Toros del Norte, they wanted me to stay, but it was not possible. I cannot stay long in one place, since I am not a young man, so I have to take advantage of this time I have left to play basketball.”
Šundov signed a month-long contract with the Iranian champions. What will happen afterwards remains to be seen, but the answer is probably somewhere high in the air, in some other club and some other country.
