Everton versus Hajduk, an attractive draw for both sets of fans in the Europe League on August 4, 2017, but how to get to fly to either game on a budget with peak season fares and planes already booked? There is a way…

No sooner that the draw was made than an army of football fans took to the Internet to learn more about the various destinations and, perhaps more importantly, how to get there cheaply.

Browsing the Everton fan forums has been an education. While most fans realised that their next opponents, Hajduk Split, would be showing up at their stadium, it appears not every fan knew where they would be going.

And while the match is the reason for travel, European jaunts such as these are a chance to explore the culture and life of distant shores. The TCN website has been busy fielding lots of traffic from Evertonians, keen to know more about this exotic city called Hakduk – or Split to the majority. The most popular Split article yesterday?

You can read the article here.

In order to help out, we have compiled a list of 10 things Evertonians should know about Split and Hajduk.

The biggest shock has been the cost of flights from anywhere near Split to anywhere near Liverpool around August 17, the first leg at Goodison, and from anywhere near Liverpool to anywhere near Split for the return leg on August 24. Yes, there are lots of flights, but this is the peak tourist season, most flights are already booked and Split handled over 650,000 passengers last month. Things are full. Fans have been searching flights to nearby airports – Zadar, Dubrovnik and Zagreb, but finding mostly expensive tickets.

There is another way… and if you book now, you can get from the UK to within a pretty drive to Split for under £100 return including taxes, and if you are Torcida on a budget with hopes to reach Merseyside, you can do so for just 100 euro return. The destination airport? Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Tuzla?!?

Yes Tuzla. Check out the Wizzair prices for flights for the relevant times for both games. If you are going in a group, the savings could really add up. Parking charges for Torcida fans are just 5 euro a day at Tuzla airport, and you can even take in the Sarajevo Film Festival on the way. It is a 7-hour drive from Split, which is of course not ideal, but this is a roadtrip exploring Europe is it not? A combi with 8 fans – plenty of extra pocket money saved for arrival in Liverpool.

The Wizz flight takes you to Luton, where you are a 3-hour rental car ride straight up the motorway and across to Liverpool.

Don’t forget to drive on the other side of the road…

And here are the options for Everton fans coming to Split. Yes the 7-hour drive is not ideal, but the savings do add up.

If this option is appealing, you can try your luck on the Wizzair site.
