After a historic weekend for Croatian boxing, a 42 year medal drought is finally over
This has been a historic weekend for Croatian boxing. After Hrvoje Sep won a bronze medal in the middleweight category, 23 year old Filip Hrgović is returning home as the new European boxing champion in the super heavyweight category.
Hrgović,who was also the world junior championship in 2010 dominated in all three rounds against 115 kg German boxer Florian Schulz so all three judges were unanimous in their final decision and Hrgović deservingly won the title.
Hrgović is the second Croat ever to win the title of an amateur European champion. 42 years ago, Mate Parlov won his last title in the middleweight category but this is the first time ever a Croat won the title in the “royal” category.
