Total Croatia News

The Croatian boxer knocked out Cuba’s Leiner Eunice Pero in the dying seconds of the second round

The Croatian Olympic team secured one more medal at Rio Olympics, as boxer Filip Hrgović won his quarter-final match of the Olympic super-heavyweight boxing category on August 16. 2016. He beat Leiner Eunice Pero in dying seconds of the second round knocking him out with a powerful right jab.

The Cuban was knocked down in the first round, but the judges awarded him points for the lead after the first three minutes. It seems that Hrgović was aware of it as he pushed even harder in the second round, and as he knocked the opponent down once more, he went for the knock-out.

He blasted a right jab, and even though Pero stood up in ten seconds, the referee stopped the fight, as it was clear that the Cuban was not ready to continue.

Hrgović has secured the bronze medal, and will meet France’s Tony Yoka in the semi-final match on Friday.
