Gold and Two Bronze Medals for Karate Team

Croatian national karate team member Ivan Kvesić is the winner of the World Karate League competition in Dubai, in the category up to 84 kilograms

His first two wins in the competition were easy, against Hong Kong representative Hong Yip Yick 8-1 and New Caledonia representative Kevyn Pognonm7-0. In the next rounds he defeated Azerbaijani Aykhan Mamayev 4-2, Pole Kamil Warda 6-0 and Japanese Ryutar Araga. The last fight ended in 1-1, but since Ivan won the first point he went on to the semi-finals where he was better than Belarussian Anton Isaku 6-3 and in the finals triumphed over Russian Ilija Granovesov with 4-3, Jutarnji List reported on April 2, 2017.

The Croatian team also won two bronze medals in Dubai: one by Andjel Kvesić in the over 84 kg category, the other by the women’s team in kata in their win over Russia 3-2.
