Renco Posinković, Marketing director of Spaladium Arena in Split confirmed for Total Croatia News on February 1, 2016, that the Croatian Handball Federation has officially nominated Split and Spaladium Arena to host the IHF Olympic Qualification Tournament in April.
This is great news for the sportiest city in Croatia, especially since Split did such a brilliant job hosting the IHF World Handball Championship back in 2009. Croatian handball team, still celebrating their bronze medal from the EHF European Handball Championship, has to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and considering their opponents will be Denmark, Norway and Bahrein (only two best teams will qualify), it will not be an easy task so the loud support from the bleachers of Spaladium Arena might be just what they need.
Bahrain is also interested in hosting this tournament, and since kickoff is just two months away, it is expected that IHF will announce their decision in the next few days. According to official qualifications system data issued by the International Handball Federation, the tournament is scheduled for April 7-10, 2016.
